Twitter is launching a specially designed, Twitter-only mobile handset in partnership with mobile messaging service Peek. The TwitterPeek device has a small colour screen and runs on a high-speed wireless data network, over which users can send and receive unlimited tweets. TwitterPeek retails at Amazon.com for USD99 with a USD7.95 monthly fee or costs USD199 for a ?lifetime? service with no extra fees.

The partnership is aimed at attracting more users to Twitter and comes as recent figures suggest usage is reaching a plateau. Last month, Twitter signed a deal with India’s mobile carrier Bharti Airtel in a bid to create more mobile users. The TwitterPeek device will face competition from most smartphone devices, which can access Twitter’s service as well as send emails and browser the web.
