Digital video and music distributor Boxee is teaming up with online video platform Brightcove in an attempt to attract major content providers such as CBS, Sony Music and Discovery. Brightcove's customers already include Showtime, Fox, Sony, AOL and the New York Times, meaning that Boxee will receive a rapid influx of mainstream web video content.

Brightcove offers customers the choice of having video ads automatically served to them or choosing a customized ad option. CEO and co-founder of Boxee Avner Ronen says: "We have been able to take advantage of this distribution channel without changing our online video workflow or losing control of our advertising and analytics."

Boxee's platform allows users to access high-quality online TV shows, films, music and photos for free via a software interface that is optimized for TV. By connecting their PC to their TV, content owners can use the platform to move web video into the living room. The new deal helps to affirm Boxee as a distributor of mainstream content.
