Liberty Media CEO, Greg Maffei, has hinted that the company is considering buying AOL's dial-up internet business from Time Warner, claiming that the firms are having "ongoing positive discussions".
In an interview with CNBC, Maffei says: "There are assets inside Time Warner including AOL that we’d certainly like to talk to Time Warner about, and we have ongoing positive discussions. Whether those lead anywhere, we’ll see."
Liberty already holds 103m shares (2.8%) in Time Warner, and first expressed interest in purchasing parts of AOL last autumn. A deal is likely to involve Liberty swapping AOL for some of its holdings in Time Warner.
