Seeqpod, the troubled music search engine, is reportedly looking to sell its seeqpod.com domain name, suggesting that a much-anticipated buyout is drawing close.
Seeqpod CEO Kasian Franks is refusing to confirm the rumours, and says a deal has not been officially completed. He claims the firm has yet to decide whether to offload the domain.
Several major companies, including Microsoft, are believed to be involved with the pending deal. It is thought Microsoft is interested in the website’s technology, which searches by association rather than keyword. Seeqpod.com now features a link to Microsoft’s search engine Bing.
Seeqpod was forced to declare itself bankrupt in April following a series of lawsuits by record labels including EMI and Warner. Any buyout is likely to be about the company’s technology rather than the brand, hence the decision to sell the domain.
