GE Drivetrain Technologies is forming a joint venture with Chongqing XinXing Fengneng Investment to make large gears for wind turbines. The firms will build the gears in a new factory in Chongqing, China, and supply GE Drivetrain's gearbox factory in Shenyang. GE said it was building the gearbox factory, a joint venture with A-Power Energy Generation Systems, in January of this year.

GE Drivetrain Technologies is a unit of GE Transportation and claims it has been supplying components to the wind turbine industry since 2004.
