GE Consumer & Industrial is partnering with Colorado-based Tendril Networks to enable GE’s smart appliances to communicate over metering and broadband networks. The pair will develop load-control strategies and energy management algorithms to allow the appliances to respond to utility-initiated signals. This will enable utilities to control the appliances of participating customers in order to reduce energy consumption at certain times.
?This is a great example of Tendril delivering on the power of an open energy management platform, and the start of a series of powerful in-home appliance partners for Tendril’s TREE [Tendril Residential Energy Ecosystem]? says Tendril CEO, Adrian Tuck.
In June, Tendril raised USD30m in a Series C funding round from VantagePoint Venture Partners, Good Energies, RRE Ventures and Vista Ventures. TREE is a Zigbee-based wireless communications network which enables consumers and utilities to monitor the energy consumption of electrical appliances through an online portal or in-home display.
