Ticketmaster and LiveNation are expected to merge to form one of the most powerful companies straddling the music supply chain, according to insiders. The resulting company would have annual revenues of almost USD6bn.

LiveNation boss Michael Rapino will become CEO and president of the merged company. Former head of Ticketmaster Barry Diller will become company chairman and Irving Azoff, current Ticketmaster CEO, will become executive chairman of the company. Azoff will also be CEO of Front Line Management, Ticketmaster’s artist management firm, which will become a unit within the new company. The merger will face tough anti-trust tests and may be seen as a benchmark of the new US government’s approach to the issue.
