Spain’s largest telecoms company Telef?a is buying German ISP Hansenet for USD1.34bn in a bid to strengthen Telef?a’s high-speed internet offer in Germany. The company, which has most of its operations in Europe and Latin America, claims Hansenet will give it an influx of 2.2m broadband users and the deal will be completed early next year.

The German telecoms market has become increasingly competitive in recent years with Deutsche Telekom strengthening its return strategy. T-Mobile and Orange are set to form a 50-50 joint venture under Deutsche which will create the UK’s largest mobile operator.
