BASF Future Business, a subsidiary of German chemical company BASF, is partnering with ReVolt Technology to accelerate the development of ReVolt’s zinc-air battery systems. BASF will supply electrochemistry expertise and component materials to support the technology’s commercialisation. ReVolt claims its rechargeable zinc-air battery provides up to three times more energy density than comparable lithium-ion batteries and costs less to produce. The firm is targeting the consumer electronics market.
In January, ReVolt raised USD13m in a Series B funding round from investors including RWE Innogy, NorthZone Ventures and Viking Venture.
