Russia’s bailiff service is ordering the sale of Telenor’s strategic stake in Vimpelcom, a Russian mobile operator, in order to settle a USD1.7bn court fine. The bailiff service plans to organise an auction to sell the stake.

Telenor says that it would be ?outrageous? if the stake was sold off before its court appeal scheduled on September 30. Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg demanded in a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin last month that Telenor's stake be left intact until the case had run its course in Russian courts.
