Twitter is partnering with mobile operator Vodafone to allow UK users to receive tweets via SMS, resurrecting the service that it halted last year. Twitter was forced to abandon the service after is revealed that a single UK user could cost up to USD1,000 a year.
Vodafone customers will be able to receive Twitter messages for free for the first few weeks. Thereafter, messages will be deducted from users’ mobile bundles.
Commentators say other major UK mobile operators O2, T-Mobile and 3 will agree to reinstate the service in the next few days.
