E.ON Kraftwerke is partnering with Siemens to develop a pilot carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at E.ON’s coal-fired power plant in Grosskrotzenburg, Germany. The technology will be employed at Unit 5 of its Staudinger plant, which has a capacity of 510MW. The pilot facility is expected to begin operations later this year.
Siemens’ technology involves a post-combustion capture process which uses cleaning agents to remove carbon dioxide from the plant’s flue gas. The pilot facility is expected to operate until the end of 2010. E.ON Kraftwerke is a developer and operator of coal- and gas-fired power plants.
