Nokia has renewed its patent license agreement with Research in Motion. Under the deal, Nokia will receive an up-front payment as well as royalties from RIM for the handset manufacturer’s use of patents relating to mobile communications infrastructure. This marks a shift in recent years by Nokia towards licensing out intellectual property rights to third parties.
