Vodafone Australia is giving a free Dell Mini 9 laptop to customers who subscribe to a AUD70 (USD45.7) mobile monthly plan. The subscription includes 5GB of monthly data network allowance and is aimed at mobile broadband users. Dell Mini 9, weighs slightly more than 1Kg and has a 8.9-inch screen, includes a built-in 3G modem for mobile broadband navigation.

"This really is going to open up freedom to consumers to get out there and roam, be anywhere and be connected with a relatively large screen," says Evan Williams, Dell's consumer sales and marketing manager for Australia and New Zealand, quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.

The move is part of Vodafone's efforts to expand its mobile broadband business, one of the company's priorities according to CEO Vittorio Colao. The exec said last week mobile broadband consumption is growing by between 25% and 30% every year in mature markets such as the UK, Italy, Germany and Spain.
