Data security firm, Datacastle, raises USD5.3m

Integrated data management and protection firm, Datacastle, has raised USD5.3m in Series A round of funding led by CM Capital Investments. The round follows initial seed funding raised in July 2007.

Datacastle provides PC security for enterprise clients. Services include automated backup of data, AES-standard encryption and data reduction. The company was founded in 2005 and is based in Seattle, Washington.

In a leadership re-shuffle announced in conjunction with the new funding, Datacastle founding CEO, Gary Sumner, is stepping down to assume the role of CTO - to be replaced by former Clonefone COO, Ronald Faith. Edge Labs CEO, Alex Knight, has been appointed Chairman of the Board.
