AT&T is to be the exclusive US carrier for the new LG smartphone - the first to use Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. LG says that with Windows Mobile, the 3G device is its first to compete in the crowded US smartphone market.
AT&T, which is also the exclusive US carrier for the iPhone 3G, will start selling the device from this week. It will be priced at USD199, tied to a two-year contract, the same price as the 8Gb iPhone.
The touch-screen phone has built-in Wi-Fi access, through which users can connect to AT&T's 20,000 wireless hotspots. It is also compatible with Edge or 3G networks and has built-in GPS. The phone has a full-colour screen, qwerty keyboard and can run Microsoft's Outlook email programme, Word, Excel and OneNote.
The Incite will compete for Christmas sales against the BlackBerry Bold, HTC Fuze and Samsung Epix - all smartphones which AT&T has began to stock in recent months, reports InformationWeek. AT&T launched the iPhone in the US in July. Sales of the device helped lift Apple's Q3 profits by 26%.
