Veoh is partnering with SanDisk to allow users to download content from the video-streaming site direct to SanDisk USB devices. Web Player for SanDisk, which will initially roll out on SanDisk's Cruzer-branded flash drives, will let users watch saved videos offline on any PC. The launch builds on the PC-based Veoh Web Player, which launched in beta last month.
The deal lets users download programmes for free to the flash drive, which uses smart technology to run applications without the need to install new software. This means users can watch videos directly without opening any other application, or leaving any trace of the activity on host PCs.
"The Veoh Web Player is a perfect companion for SanDisk's Cruzer USB flash drives because our customers often want to watch videos when they're away from home and it often isn't possible to install software on the computer itself," says the director of product marketing for SanDisk's consumer retail unit, Yaniv Lavi.
The Cruzer USB sticks come with memory of up to 16Gb, are password protected and are capable of streaming high-definition content. The partnership will eventually roll out to all SanDisk devices that use the company's patented U3 smart technology.
In October, Veoh rolled out its Web Player application. This lets users search for and stream content, while letting them download programmes to their PC. The application is an extension of the first Veoh TV beta, which was released last year.
Veoh offers videos from more than 100,000 content publishers - including CBS, MTV Networks, ABC and ESPN - while SanDisk says it's the world's largest supplier of flash storage cards.
