    this is very general and is something what people know ,i would suggest something like
    1)dont entertain if some one is not aware of the extent of the relationship being shared by primary induviduals with trust
    2)if some one is exibiting concern on a context involve him in the discussion ,we might know the actual intention of that third person.
    3)never get influenced by the third person unless u r convinced.
    I hope these might work to some extent to avoid backlash....
