Sean Bonner: Grassroots News Goes Global

After moving to Los Angeles, Sean Bonner had a difficult time finding relevant local news and advice. In 2003, Bonner solved the problem by co-founding Bode Media, the parent company of The Metroblogging Project. Named Best of the Web by Forbes, this network of local blogs offers news, dining recommendations and even advice on avoiding traffic jams, with over 700 regular bloggers/contributors in over 50 cities. Here, Bonner discusses the advantages of getting news from the locals instead of from giant corporations, and the accountability of grassroots publications like his.
