Double-Breasted Jacket
At one time, double-breasted jackets were considered sporty, since they’re descended from yachting wear. Today they’re acceptable in even the most formal settings. Six-buttons with a two-button closure is standard, but four buttons with a two-button closure is not uncommon. As with a single-breasted jacket, the bottom button should remain undone. (In the 1980s, there was a six-button style intended to be buttoned only at the bottom closure, but today this is considered out of date.)
